As the director of development for the Black Hills State University Foundation, Dwight and his team set new fundraising records each year of his last four years with the Foundation, including $8 million raised in 2014. Prior to his tenure at Black Hills State University, Dwight was the major gifts officer for the University of South Dakota Foundation, overseeing donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major and leadership gift prospects.

He served as planned giving officer and interim executive director for the foundation at Wayne State College in Nebraska. Dwight received his Bachelor of Arts from Wayne State College and his Master of Political Science and Public Administration from the University of South Dakota.
