QUESTION: Why should we consider hiring a professional consulting firm?
Even the largest and longest-standing nonprofits only undertake a handful of major campaigns over their lifetimes, and very few of their staff members will have participated in more than one or two of those campaigns. In contrast, a professional consulting firm has seen it all. Also, what’s often needed is an outside, objective perspective before a nonprofit pursues a campaign. Professional consultants can say what needs to be said (but what no one has been willing to say). This kind of insight can really help jump start a nonprofit’s fundraising for raising more money to fulfil their mission.
Vice President of Grant Writing and Research, Wayne A. Courtois, MFA, GPC, has had over 20 years of successful grants experience. With a career that began in health care and expanded into human services and the arts, Wayne has worked with such prestigious organizations as Kansas City Hospice, the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the National World War I Museum and Memorial, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and Village Shalom.
Wayne has worked on six capital campaigns, raising funds from national and regional grant makers like the Kresge Foundation and The J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation. On the federal side, he has obtained grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Wayne provides nonprofits with a full complement of grant services, including prospect research, grant development, and grant proposal writing and reporting. Wayne is the founder of the Arts and Culture Roundtable of Kansas City, an information clearinghouse for development professionals in the arts. He received a Bachelor in Liberal Arts from Michigan State University and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina, and is Grant Professional Certified (GPC) by the Grant Professionals Certification Institute.
Strategies for Success: The Future of Major Gifts and Estate Pledges is Now
Heavy reliance on an annual fund or special events mires a nonprofit in an almost hopeless cycle of transactional donor doom. Instead, wake up and smell the benefits of a well-conceived major gifts and estate pledges program. Those who do will succeed well into the future; those who don’t will continue to slog in the fundraising doldrums of mediocrity. Go here to read more.
