“Move ahead as if COVID weren’t here.” Fundamental Learning Center (Wichita, Kan.) and its campaign for Transforming Education was featured in a recent article: “Within days of the Fundamental Learning Center announcing the public phase of its $20-million capital campaign for a new school, COVID-19 shut down Wichita and an economic crash followed.” From the article regarding the campaign and FLC’s co-founder and executive director, Jeanne Phillips: “After a delay due to the pandemic, the center finally is proceeding with the public phase of its campaign, and co-founder and director Phillips said she is confident it’s going to be a success. She said she’s going to follow the advice of a nonprofit fundraising group she’s been working with [Hartsook]. ‘You are going to think positively,’ the group said. ‘You are going to move ahead as if COVID weren’t here.'”
Pittsburgh Pirates Tour the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (Kansas City) hosted Pirates players and manager on a social-distance, private tour of the museum prior to the opener against the Kansas City Royals. “If you’ve never gone, it’s something that you should definitely see. It makes you have a newfound respect for Negro League players and what they went through and the struggles, and how they’ve come into the league,” offered team manager Derek Shelton. The NLBM has reopened to the public with mandated limitations due to COVID-119. The organization recently completed the first phase of its Museum updates, including displays focusing on the integration of Major League Baseball (1939-1956) during its campaign, Celebrating a Game-Changing Century.
Providing a Path Forward Where It’s Needed Most State Fair Community College (Sedalia, Mo.) is providing job-ready education through The LearningForce initiative. Its Commercial Driving Academy is currently enrolling students on the Sedalia campus. The course has been designed by employers and is the region’s leading truck driver training program. A Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) opens doors for in-demand jobs with good pay, bonuses and benefits, especially in light of job insecurity during the pandemic. The LearningForce offers a diverse schedule of noncredit, continuing education courses for business and industry, professional development and personal enrichment.
Congratulations to The Recovery Center The Recovery Center (Oklahoma City, Okla.) was recognized as part of Newsweek’s inaugural list of Best Addiction Treatment Centers 2020. This prestigious award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc. The 2020 ranking lists the best facilities in the 20 states with the most number of facilities according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). TRC has served Oklahoma City since 1981. The Recovery Center is currently undergoing a campaign for Recovering Hope to support TRC’s continuum of care – including intake, detoxification, outpatient services, family education, case management and aftercare planning.
