Keep Scouting

For over 110 years, Scouting has remained the premier youth leadership organization in the country.  Today, Scouting’s values, and the leadership skills taught through its program, are just as important as they were in 1910.

As your council moves forward with its fundraising, here are some important things to keep in mind:

  • In 2019, total giving was $449 billion.  Over the last 40 years, with the notable exception of 2008-2009, philanthropic giving has trended up, overall, regardless of economic adversity, natural disasters or unanticipated world events.
  • Scouting is still the premier youth organization in the country.  People believe in the lessons and values Scouting teaches, and donors want to support the mission and make a positive difference in people’s lives.
  • Since March 2020, as the impact of the pandemic started to trend upward in the U.S., the demand for outdoor activities has soared and become a critical outlet for individuals and families at this time.
  • Someone is always making money. Consider industries that are thriving at this time: landscaping, outdoor recreation, real estate, and others. This is an ideal time to identify and cultivate relationships with leaders in these sectors.
  • For donor prospects who have pushed paused on their giving in 2020, use this time to build closer relationships with them, educate them on your mission, keep sharing your story and make plans for moving forward.
