$400,000 Gift to Starlight Theatre

Starlight (Kansas City) received a $400,000 gift from the Goppert Foundation to support Starlight’s $30-million Uniquely KC: A campaign to secure a KC landmark for future generations. Objectives for the comprehensive campaign include major physical improvements that will allow for expanded programming to serve more students and families, enhanced venue amenities, new community engagement programs and increased endowment.

$200,000 Raised for Open Avenues

Open Avenues (Rogers, Ark.) recently held its 2nd annual SOAR NWA event. This year’s SOAR netted more than $200,000 for the nonprofit. Every dollar raised supports Open Avenues’ work to provide employment opportunities for people with disabilities in the Northwest Arkansas region. Our programs include onsite job training and employment, life skills programming, community employment and on-the-job coaching services, high school to employment transition programming and transportation services.

Transforming Education through Literacy Builds Momentum

Fundamental Learning Center (Wichita, Kan.) continues to build momentum in its campaign to construct a new Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired facility that will house a school for children with dyslexia and a center to train other educators. The organization’s current location can only accommodate 60 students. The new facility will double that capacity. Fundamental Learning Center is a nonprofit literacy academy for children and a teacher training center using research-based programs that teach children with dyslexia and struggling readers to read, write and spell. In addition to teaching children how to read, the organization helps prepare teachers, Certified Academic Language Therapists, reading specialists and tutors, who then work with struggling readers.
