$600,000 to Metropolitan Community College from
the Edward F. Swinnery Trust
Metropolitan Community College (Kansas City) has received a $600,000 grant from the Edward F. Swinney Trust, Bank of America, N.A., as Trustee. The grant will help MCC fund relocation of workforce training programs from its Business and Technology campus to the new Advanced Technical Skills Institute. The 101,000-square-foot Advanced Technical Skills Institute will house programs including building maintenance and construction, computer-integrated machining, HVAC, industrial technology and welding.

$300,000 to State Fair Community College for
Stronger Workforce, Greater Community
State Fair Community College (Sedalia, Mo.) received a gift of $300,000 from Nucor to help build the Olen Howard Workforce Innovation Center. Nucor is North America’s most diversified steel and steel products company. The new workforce training center will provide expanded lab and classroom spaces for training in welding and precision machining and expand the college’s capacity to meet the growing demand for technical workforce training and strengthen the communities it serves.

National WWI Museum and Memorial Grant from
National Endowment for Humanities
National WWI Museum and Memorial (Kansas City) will hold a two-week Summer Institute, World War I in the Middle East in 2022. Twenty-eight K-12 educators will attend an interdisciplinary humanities program at the Museum and Memorial. Participants will spend two weeks dedicated to the study of World War I with Middle East scholars and in partnership with Middle Eastern study centers.
