$425,000 to Community Services League
Community Services League (Independence, Mo.) has ramped up its fundraising in response to COVID-19. The pandemic has reduced the organization’s ability to raise money through traditional means, such as events and in-person solicitations, and created a spike in demand for its services. Recent gifts include those from the Hall Family Foundation ($100,000), The Sunderland Foundation ($250,000) and the Kansas City Regional COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund ($75,000) established by the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, United Way of Greater Kansas City, LISC Greater Kansas City (Local Initiatives Support Corporation) and the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC).

$48,000 for Response and Relief Support
Open Avenues (Rogers, Ark.) received a special COVID-19 response and relief gift of $48,000 from The Sunderland Foundation. This is significant, because the Foundation, which customarily supports capital funding, has directed its gift to the organization’s operating needs related to the pandemic. Open Avenues provides direct services for people with disabilities. It also offers an alternative workforce for production needs. Increased demand currently includes the assembly of boxes for shipping goods to relief sites and parts for a specialized desk used in emergency vehicles.
