|North Carolina Based Transit Retains Hartsook to Guide Its Campaign
GoTriangle (Research Triangle, N.C.) comprises three counties (Orange, Durham and Wake Counties) and is home to nearly 1.5 million people, with this number expected to grow to nearly 2.1 million over the next 20 years. To help ensure continued prosperity, mobility and opportunity, GoTriangle is making game-changing investments in new infrastructure to provide an alternative to congested roads; promote better access to employment, education and healthcare; and spur economic growth. GoTransit Partners, a new nonprofit, will lead a capital campaign to raise private dollars to ensure that light rail – the first major endeavor of this bold regional plan – advances to construction.
|Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City Takes Steps Toward an Olathe Unit Expansion
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City (Kansas City), in cooperation with Olathe Public Schools, has grown to become a year-round program providing before- and after-school services for students attending area elementary, middle, and high schools. Housed at the Center of Grace facility, the Olathe Unit is preparing to serve more students with expanded programs and services. A campaign for expansion will support regular giving and an endowment.

Walton Children’s Enrichment Center and Early Childhood Initiatives Center (Bentonville, AR) not only provides early education for young children, but it offers training opportunities for preschool educators and administrators throughout the state. “The greatest impact the ECIC has had on my work is through their training opportunities for early education directors. QUESTION: How should we be showing appreciation for our donors? In the past we have given out plaques and recognized them at our annual event, but we could use some new ideas.
Here are a few ideas you might try. Donors feel a great sense of satisfaction when they see their dollars at work. Arrange for a donor to observe or participate in an activity or event funded by their charitable gifts. Another unique way to demonstrate your appreciation for a donor is to support one of their causes. Volunteer for an agency or attend a fundraising event for an organization supported by your donor. Of course, you can always send a personal, handwritten note. The key is to start with the donor – what would they like? Ask those who know them best and then tailor your appreciation to them as individuals rather than as a demographic.
|Strategies for Success: Preparing the Way for New Board Members
Individuals should join a nonprofit board for the right reasons, and not simply because a friend or colleague suggested it or because it sounded interesting. Having the wrong people on a board can be unhealthy for an organization and, ultimately, lead to bigger problems down the road. Prior to joining a board, individuals should be given a baseline assessment of the organization from top to bottom. Once they have joined, help board members continue to understand the organization’s leadership, staff and structure at a deeper level. Go here to read more.
