$10-Million Gift to the National WWI Museum and Memorial
The National WWI Museum and Memorial (Kansas City) announced a gift of nearly $10 million from The Sunderland Foundation in support of renovations to the main gallery, public spaces and courtyard. The gift will support enhancements critical to the post-COVID-19 environment, including touch-free video screens and interactive exhibits, as well as improved viewing accessibility of the trench experience, better navigation to improve crowd flow and improved functionality of the open storage and educational areas.
$2-Million Mabee Foundation Challenge Grant
Fundamental Learning Center (Wichita, Kan.) fulfilled a $2-million Mabee Foundation challenge grant, completing the construction budget for a new, Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired building to house the organization’s life-changing work. The building is included in the Transforming Education campaign to raise $20 million. The campaign is currently in the public phase. Fundamental Learning Center is an educational nonprofit which serves children who have reading, writing and spelling difficulties which includes children with dyslexia.
$1.4-Million Gift to the Lyric Opera of Kansas City
Lyric Opera of Kansas City (Kansas City) brings high quality, live operatic performances to the people of the Kansas City area and five-state region. A generous $1.4-million gift from an anonymous donor will help support the Lyric’s capital and endowment goals in mounting productions that enrich the community, as well as reflect the highest artistic standards of the profession.
$750,000 Mabee Challenge Grant
Community School of the Arts (Fort Smith) received a challenge grant for $750,000 from the Mabee Foundation to help build the Center for the Creative Arts campus on Riverfront Drive in Fort Smith, Arkansas. CSA must raise $3.7 million by early January 2022 to meet this challenge. Thanks to the Mabee grant, this challenge will insure that CSA successfully completes its campaign of building a state-of-the art facility with first-of-its-kind arts programs in Arkansas for children and youth. The Mabee grant is a confirmation of the campaign’s viability. Special thanks to Dr. Rick Foti, Mrs. Mary Carleton Young, Dr. Rosilee Russell and Dr. Phillip Russell for their work on this grant.
