Robin Billings, Prospect Researcher, Washington, D.C. Before becoming a full-time researcher, Robin Billings spent several years at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, managing various corporate relations and fundraising projects. She was Director of the Corporate Briefing Center at the Chamber for two years and spent another two years as a Director for Coalitions, Committees and Member Services. In all these capacities, Robin found good research to be the bedrock of successful fundraising. Robin earned an Honors BA in Psychology from Northwestern State University in Louisiana. |

Murray Blackwelder, MPA, Senior Executive Vice President, Kansas City Prior to joining Kinetic, Murray Blackwelder was President of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Foundation. He has served as Vice President for external affairs at Iowa State University. During his tenure there, the University experienced record giving years, completing a $214 million campaign and a $450 million campaign a few years later. Murray then served as Senior Vice President for Advancement with Purdue University where he directed a campaign to raise nearly $1.5 billion. He has been an active member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and served as a CASE National Trustee. Murray holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from UMKC and a Bachelor of Sciences from Baker University. |

Becky Brown, Associate Consultant, Columbus, Ohio Becky Brown brings executive-level leadership and management experience and a proven track record of meeting and exceeding fundraising goals. Her background in marketing gives her keen insights for digital marketing utilizing analytics and data mining. As a fundraiser, she helped with the management of more than 135 economic and community development fundraising projects generating over $1 billion in operating revenue for clients. Becky has a Bachelor’s of Arts in Public Administration from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She was nationally recognized on NBC’s the Today Show as an economic development grant recipient and received the Arthur E. Cullman Business Person of the Year. |

Geoff Burns, Vice President, Columbus, Ohio Prior to joining Kinetic, Geoff Burns founded Burns & Associates, a consulting company specializing in nonprofit structure, operations and startups. He brings a long history of community service, religious philanthropy and environmental stewardship to the Kinetic team. Many of these skills were developed as Executive Director for Geneva Hills – a retreat center known for its stunning setting, educational programs and adult retreat. Geoff has a BS in Environmental Science from Valparaiso University and an MBA from Salem International University. He is working on his Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Management with Capella University. |

Kristy Burns, Vice President, Columbus, Ohio As a key visionary at Geneva Hills (Lancaster, Ohio), Kristy Burns instituted their successful major gifts campaign and comprehensive fundraising program. Under Kristy’s leadership, the organization raised considerable philanthropic dollars through direct response, strategic special events and major gift efforts. She founded two nonprofit organizations and built nonprofit organizations from the ground up, including board development and strategic planning. Kristy’s expertise is with new and emerging organizations and first-time campaigns. Kristy was also a special education teacher on a Lakota Sioux Indian reservation in South Dakota. She has a Bachelor of Art in Psychology and Sociology from Valparaiso and a Master’s in Fundraising Management. |

Stephen Jones, Executive. Vice President, Kansas City Stephen Jones served as the Presiding Bishop/Chief Financial Officer for the Community of Christ where he oversaw development and implementation of a five-year strategic financial plan and was responsible for overseeing $1 billion of insured assets worldwide. He has also served as the Chief Operations Officer for North Iowa Mercy Hospital Center and was Senior Vice President for Regional Health Network for ten hospitals and shared services. His volunteer experience includes serving on the Capital Campaign Committee and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for Children’s Mercy Hospital; as a board member and executive committee member for Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care; and as inaugural board member for the Health Care Foundation of Kansas City. He has a Master of Arts/Religion, Park University; Master of Health Administration, St. Louis University; and a Bachelor of Science, Augustana College. |

Jason Wood, Senior Vice President, Kansas City Prior to joining Kinetic, Jason Wood was President and CEO of the Pikes Peak United Way (PPUW) in Colorado Springs, Co. where he managed a 35-member team and $5.5 million annual operating budget. In 2015, Jason was selected as a top-20 CEO within United Way Worldwide, earning participation in the organization’s Executive Leadership Program through the U.K.-based Center for Creative Leadership. He began with United Way as a Senior Director of Community Investment and Leadership Giving, Endowment, and Planned Giving before serving as the Director of Resource Investment, Financial Stability and then as Vice President for Community Engagement. Jason was selected as one of 24 high-potential contributors among 2,000 applicants worldwide for the United Way Worldwide Global Resident Fellowship focused on leadership, cross-cultural awareness and cross-functional projects across Europe. Jason holds a B.A. in nonprofit management, with a specialty in fundraising and community engagement, from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. |
A Campaign for The Butterfly Effect: Transforming Education in Kansas
Fundamental Learning Center (Wichita, Kan.) has retained Kinetic to manage its campaign, The Butterfly Effect: Transforming Education to support the organization’s vision. The Fundamental Learning Center seeks to build a prominent laboratory facility in Wichita to house its rapidly expanding programs. FLC is not simply a school, it is a laboratory and platform for launching the radical changes needed to transform education. This is why the creation of a physical location – a world headquarters for training teachers to identify and address issues of dyslexia properly – is so fundamental to FLC’s mission.
Louisiana Foundation Receiving Research and Grant Writing Support
Kinetic will conduct foundation research and provide grant writing for the Food Bank of North West Louisiana (Shreveport, La.) The Kroger Marketplace Store in Shreveport recently donated over $17,000 in food from its annual food drive to the Food Bank of Northwest. Said Food Bank Northwest Louisiana, “This food will help us in our mission to help end hunger in Northwest Louisiana. There are about seventy-five thousand individuals that depend on the food bank regularly for their food. Food is expensive, and so, that’s the work of the food bank.”
Meeting Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual Needs in North Carolina
Hospice House Foundation of WNC, Inc. (Franklin, N.C.) was incorporated in August, 2005. It is a residence created to care for terminally ill patients with medical conditions which cannot be managed in home and to provide respite care; it is a place to spend their final days. Hospice House offer a variety of services to meet the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of its residents. Kinetic has been retained to assist Hospice House Foundation of WNC to advance its fundraising goals to support its mission.
Indiana Camp Is Impacting Families, Communities… the World
Camp Tecumseh YMCA (Brookstone, Ind.) spans 660 acres and serves over 36,000 people annually. Camp Tecumseh has grown into one of the largest YMCA Camps in the country while staying true to its founding principles. Camp Tecumseh’s year-round programs shape kids and adults who use their experience to build better families, better communities, and a better world. The Campaign for Tecumseh will support the organization’s capital, program and endowment goals.

Kinetic client The Heritage Foundation celebrated the graduation of five graduates of the Kinetic Master’s in Fundraising from Avila University. QUESTION: We just finished a campaign and it went okay, but in some ways, it took a toll on our staff. No one wants to bring it up, but we know that the last campaign was really more of a phase one proposition rather than the end of our urgent needs for the organization. How long should we wait before bringing up the potential of starting a new campaign?
It may surprise you, but despite conventional wisdom, the sooner you start your new campaign, the better. A new campaign allows you to use the trajectory of the last campaign to capitalize on your new learning curve and build momentum even faster. You probably have a longer list of supporters interested in the mission than you had before, and you’ve proven you can get a campaign to the finish line. Invite new donors from the last campaign to serve on the new campaign steering committee. Leverage the good will of a “job well done” to launch another, exciting goal. Don’t wait for the last campaign to become a long-lost memory. Start now.
