Statistically, most new businesses close within the first year of operation. Of those that make it through year one, fifty percent fail before their ten-year anniversary. Only one percent last for thirty years. In contrast, Kinetic not only has survived, but thrived. We have navigated national and global economic cycles and come through even stronger; and we have presided over a seamless transition of leadership that positions us for success for decades to come. Today, Kinetic is one of the country’s iconic nonprofit fundraising leaders and among the most accomplished in the world. Wichita, Kansas Coalition Seeks Hartsook’s Professional Counsel Working Families United (Wichita, Kan.) is a coalition of labor unions, including the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, UNITE HERE, the Ironworkers, the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), seeking immigrant worker justice. Together, they represent two million workers. Kinetic will be providing foundation research and grant writing services for the organization. |

Largest, Most Immersive Conservation-based Attraction in Missouri Enlists Kinetic The Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium (Springfield, Mo.) was recently voted the number one best new attraction in America by USA Today. The nonprofit organization, which opened in September of 2017, has enlisted Hartsook to provide guidance in advancing its mission. In addition to its Museum and Aquarium, Wonders of Wildlife conservation adventures programs combine education and adventure that engages students and families in unforgettable hands-on experiences – creating a brighter future for everyone through conservation. |

Phoenix, Arizona Nonprofit Enlists Kinetic’s Services Generation Justice (Phoenix, Ariz.) has retained Kinetic to provide research and insights on foundations and to consider potential for grant opportunities. Generation Justice works to fulfill the promise of the Constitution by extending its umbrella of rights and protections to the nation’s most vulnerable children. These children include those whose parents perpetrate crimes against them, resulting in the removal of the children from their homes. The organization’s Project Lullaby proposes legal reforms to ensure the timely and safe passage of drug-exposed infants to loving families. |

Insights into the Future of Philanthropic Innovation: Philanthropic Literacy for Future Leaders Adrian Sargeant and Jen Shang of the Kinetic Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy have provided insights into the future of philanthropic innovation and how it might best be managed. They define philanthropic innovation very broadly as “newness in love for mankind.” It encompasses, but is not limited to, new philanthropic ideas or projects (e.g. providing clean water, education, shelter or healthcare) philanthropic tools (e.g. social impact investment or crowdfunding) and organizational designs (e.g. social impact investment organizations, social cooperatives or Benefit-Corporations) that can be used to express and channel that love to mankind. We will respond by email and your question may be featured in a future Philanthropy Success. QUESTION: Our board members don’t believe that fundraising is something they should have to do. As professional fundraising consultants, what is your take on this issue? Board members should be involved in the fundraising process. However, very often their hesitancy is more about feeling ill equipped to do the job than it is about indifference. A good place to start is to let them know that successful fundraising is about the organization’s mission, not simply money. Discussing what could be accomplished if the organization had more money can help give board members more confidence to talk with people in the community about why the organization is worthy of support. Lastly, leadership may be more apt to assist in the fundraising process if they have trusted professional fundraising counsel and a well-trained development team guiding the effort. |
