$2.5 Million Gift to Starlight Theatre
Starlight (Kansas City) received a $2.5-million gift from the Hall Family Foundation to support Starlight’s $30-million Uniquely KC: A campaign to secure a KC landmark for future generations. The gift includes $2 million for capital projects and $500,000 to help launch six new community engagement programs focused on arts access and arts industry workforce development. Objectives for the comprehensive campaign include major physical improvements that will allow for expanded programming, enhanced venue amenities and increased endowment.
$2 Million to Metropolitan Community College
Metropolitan Community College Foundation (Kansas City) received $2 million from Jackson County to support MCC workforce programs for disadvantaged communities in industries that are key to the economic recovery of the Kansas City region. The County Legislature unanimously approved the use of American Rescue Plan funding to support MCC’s initiative. The workforce training programs provided by MCC focus on industries including truck driver training, construction, manufacturing and public safety (police, fire, EMT). The county’s investment will allow MCC to expand the skill sets of residents in these high-demand fields directly related to the economic recovery. MCC provides the most extensive array of training in these supply chains and economic recovery fields on the Missouri side of the metropolitan area.
$250,000 for The Path Forward
Metropolitan Community College Foundation also received a $250,000 gift from the Goppert Foundation towards its campaign, The Path Forward. The Path Forward will provide funding for MCC’s most urgent scholarship, programs and capital goals. Other possibilities on the horizon for The Path Forward include Institute Development for Agriculture, Business, Hospitality and others. The gift is earmarked for three MCC capital projects: Advanced Technical Skills Institute; MCC-Penn Valley Engineering Technology addition; and MCC-Blue River East initiatives.
Overland Park Historical Society Receives $250,000
Overland Park Historical Society (Overland Park, Kan.) received a commitment of $250,000 from the Sunderland Foundation for the campaign, All Aboard! The Overland Park Historical Society’s mission is to identify and preserve the history of Overland Park and the surrounding area. All Aboard! will provide funding to restore and repurpose the historic Strang Line Depot in downtown Overland Park and preserve it long term.
